The organizing committee of the ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships 2018, along with the International Canoe Federation and the Canoe Marathon Committee, published today the 1st bulletin for all national federations.

This document includes the first official information on this major event, including general information about the region, transportation info, accommodation packages, general information about the event, with provisional dates, etc.
It does not include yet, the course and the venue plan as the organizing committee proposed some changes for the European Championships and the World Cup events, aiming to enhance the show and bring new challenges for this World Champs. As this has not been approved yet by the ICF Canoe Marathon Committee, this information will only be available in the beginning of 2018.

Portugal will be the capital of canoeing in 2018 by hosting some of the most important World Events in our country. Particularly regarding Canoe Marathon, since a total of 4 events will be hosted, focusing on the World Championships in Prado (Vila Verde).

The first event will be a World Cup by the end of May, including the Masters (K1/C1) in Viana do Castelo. Then, we will host a second Masters World Cup, followed by the World Championships, both in the first days of September.

This will be the second Canoe Marathon World Championships in Portugal. The first one took place in Crestuma, Vila Nova de Gaia, in 2009.
Prado already hosted the European Championships in 2013 and a World Cup in 2016, and now it will host the big race, the World Championships.
Portugal will also be the first country to host, in the same year, the Canoe Marathon and the Canoe Sprint & Paracanoe World Championships, and with only one week difference.

The ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships 2018 will take place between September 6th and 9th and it will also include a Masters World Cup at the beginning of the week, between September 3rd and 4th.
The World Cup in Viana do Castelo will be raced only in K1 and C1 boats and it will also include a Masters event. The race will take place between May 25th and 27th and it will include the Portuguese National Cup at the same time.
